April
21, 1934 Worked the whole day on the tractor and put in some new piston rings.
Starting in the 1920s or 1930s,
a farmer also had to be a mechanic. When
Cornelius bought his first tractor in the spring of 1933, they had trouble
starting it and operating it so the dealer came out a few times to help
them. And they frequently took it to one
of the country mechanic shops in the Mennonite community. But a year later, they were able to put in
new piston rings themselves, so they must have learned quickly.
